Imagine that you are a franchisee in the automotive service field that has built your business to a large number of locations. 

Most of all, you run an honest business.  You are proud of the fact that despite the fact that your business is in a field that could, if it wanted to, be abusive to customers by overselling, you go out of your way to make sure this does not happen.

You make it clear to your employees that every customer is to be treated with respect and the utmost integrity, and if you cannot make a profit by doing it right, you really don't want be in business. 

Things are going well.  Your business is growing, and your record with the Better Business Bureau is pristine - no complaints.

Then it happens.

You are part of a large, nationwide chain with over 2,000 stores, and the frachisee in California has been caught abusing customers.  A local TV station has done an expose, and it has been picked up by newspapers and radio stations all over the USA.
