The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, selected Kevin B. Murphy, a franchise attorney, author and instructor as the premier U.S. franchise expert to lead discussions in a workshop about the impact of franchising on small to medium sized enterprises (SME’s) operating in Asian countries.

The workshop, sponsored jointly by WIPO and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) took place in Singapore September 18 – 21, 2007, and was attended by government officials representing Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Viet Nam as well as the host country, Singapore.

Pickers Picket Outside of Burger King

Tomato Pickers Say They Want One Cent More Per Pound Picked

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A group of tomato pickers picketed outside a Fort Myers, Florida Burger King saying that they "want the chain to pay their farm worker one penny more than their current wage". 

"You don't get paid by hour. You have to pick around two tons of tomatoes in a normal day in order to make the minimum wage of Florida," said farm worker Gerargo Reyes."

A local station, KNBC-2, covered the story and shows a video of the picketers holding signs such as "If Taco Bell can pay, so can Burger King" or "BK tomato pickers need justice now, 1¢ more / lb."
